World Series Final Game Captures 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extra-inning clash where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB reported this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game drew over 27 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It additionally is the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete American average was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase over the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different languages.
