Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
An important official commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
