Government Official Confirms MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Staff Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defence official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the possible threats posed by Chinese cars, and staff have been told to refrain from discussing classified matters in any vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Staff

During a recently aired appearance on a radio station, a defence minister commented on claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to talk about secret material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He said that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however emphasised that security is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles represent a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their car, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, due to the growing threats of eavesdropping that exist in every single vehicle, to only have those confidential conversations in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, Pollard replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Security Context

This announcement follows reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could allow China to switch off buses and cause chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

This broader security environment highlights the significance of strong protocols and vigilance in every areas of official activities, including transport usage to communication practices.
